I see architecture as the art and technology of building. The art of architecture is seen not only in the finished product, but every step along the way. And technology should facilitate design that is responsive to itʼs place, program, and purpose.
ARCHITECTURAL INTERN, SMITHGROUP PHOENIX, AZ 2008
Smithgroup is a large established firm with offices in 10 cities in the United States. I was
fortunate to be able to work in a wide variety of roles while at Smithgroup. Some of these roles
included presentation graphics, Autocad plan drawings, and working with Revit and Sketchup
models in all aspects of the design process.
ARCHITECTURAL INTERN, SCHIEL ARCHITECTURE SALT LAKE CITY, UT 2006-2007
My time at Schiel Architecture was split between using Autocad to draw construction documents,
and using Sketchup and rendering programs to create 3-D models and presentation graphics.
Because Schiel Architecture is a small firm, I had the opportunity participate in generating a wide
variety of construction documents, and participate in the early design process as well.
HVAC INSTALLER, GUNTHERS AMERICAN FORK, UT 2004-2005
I primarily installed ductwork and controls for large commercial projects. Other duties included
wiring and assembling custom condenser units as well as cutting and assembling duct. It was
great to get some hands-on experience with these complicated systems.
ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN, UNITED STATES AIR FORCE 1998-2003
The majority of my time was spent maintaining and repairing ground-based aircraft navigation
systems, along with the requisite paperwork and military duties. I also attended a six week
managerial training school in Italy and had the opportunity for some managerial duties. The best
aspect of my time in the Air Force was the opportunity to see different areas and cultures while I
was stationed in Texas, Mississippi, Washington D.C., and Spain.
